I am self taught and love to experiment with colour, textuer and line. After a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) about 15 years ago I stopped drawing believing that I no longer could. My judgement and co-ordination were affected, particularly for drawing, yet I have discovered over the last 10 years that it has enhanced my percaptions of colour and texture as an artist I often see even plain colours as having texture and this is something I am trying to explore with my painting.

I immerse myself in painting, using it as an extra sense that allows me to explre the world from my altered perspective. Sometimes putting paint on canvas helps me interpret the changes happening around and within me.

As a result of MS I paint to anchor myself in my environment, I seek to explore how independent everything is. Independence became such a strong drive for me as a disabled person that it took a while to realize that independence is more about making my own choices and choosing my own risks than doing everything for myself. MS has changed my perceptions and I am never sure where a painting will take me.

My paintings never feel finished, just paused at the right time. Although I currently do not take commissions for paintings because of the effects of MS I usually have some paintings for sale, see art flyer or website for details . I am hoping to be able to begin taking commissions for oil paintings next year.

Pencil Artwork Commissions

I am happy to undertake pencil artwork commissions from photographs, particularly for childen and pet portraits. I am now very good at assessing how long a drawing will take me, allowing for MS, and usually get one completed by the the provisional completion date I give. For pencil drawings this is about 4 weeks depending on the amount of artwork/research involved. If you wish to commission a portrait I need good photographs, I provide an information sheet which includes tips about taking good photographs. I am also happy to take commissions for other subjects if you want a pencil drawing of wildlife or your home, for example.
