Hi my name is Dawn Steel and i hope you enjoy visiting my website
After a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) and becoming a wheelchair user about 15 years ago I stopped drawing believing that I no longer could.
I had always drawn, beginning when a child and only stopping due to MS. About 6 years ago I began to paint and started drawing regularly again. I now love to experiment with colour, line and texture.
My judgement and co-ordination were affected, particularly for drawing and anything involving fine control. I have slowly learned over the last few years that it has completely changed my perceptions of colour and texture as an artist. Plain colours I often see as having texture which I am trying to explore with my current paintings.
I have continually struggled to integrate true independence into my life as a disabled woman and this is reflected in my approach to my art. Painting absorbs me completely, enchanting me until I am totally captivated by canvas, colour and texture, an extremely sensual experience especially when using oil paints. |
